Steps To Making Paper Plate Party Hats

When you have chosen a themed children’s party, it is necessary to have all the needed props and decorations. You must ensure props and decorations because you want the party atmosphere to be consistent with the chosen party theme.

One of the main components of children’s themed parties is party hats. Your themed party hats need not be bought as you can easily make them with materials found within the home. Instead of spending money on costumes and party hats, you can simply let your imagination and creativity run wild to make your child’s party fun, colorful and with character.

Easy Steps to Follow

Here are the easy steps to making paper plate party hats:

1. As with any type of art project, you must first gather all the needed materials. The main material for your party hat creation activity would be paper plates. Be sure to buy enough in accordance with the number of guests you expect. You can also have an extra few paper plates for mistakes you might make or for unexpected guests that you will not have to run short of your main material.

2. Gather all the materials on your work table. This can save you time as it allows you to work systematically. Be sure to have not just paper plates but also other art or home materials like colored paper, pairs of scissors, glue and paste, different colored ribbons, glitters, stickers, light cardboard boxes, crayons or watercolor, and such. Keep them all within easy reach of your working area.

3. You can now start working on the party hat base. You can take one paper plate and fold it into a cone shape. Tape or glue the edges so you can have your cone-shaped party hat base. Aside from the usual coned hat, you can also make some paper plate crowns and tiaras. You can do this by cutting the inner part of the plate, leaving a circular crown that fits a child’s head.

4. After you have made your party hat bases in cones and crowns, you can now focus on decorating each one. The decorations must, of course, depend on the chosen theme.

For magical and wizard themes, you can decorate your cone-shaped party hats with colorful moon and stars cut outs. Paste these cut-outs all over the hat base. Be sure to cover your coned hat in black. You can also make use of star- and moon-shaped glow-in-the-dark stickers.

For princess themes, you can make use of your crown or tiara shaped party hat base. You can create simple but colorful crowns using glitters, sequins or even buttons. You can also make another kind of crown by attaching long flowing ribbons of different colors to the crown base so that they can flow down the “princess’” hair.

You can actually make any kind of party hat with paper plates as the base. Just be sure to take careful time in measuring the head base so that they can snugly fit into the children’s heads.

5. After you have decorated each child’s party hat, you can now attach a ribbon or a thin garter to each side. This can hold the hats in place when worn.
